For the good folk of Mud Creek has a secret as dark as death itself. One wild and stormy night, gripped in the collective hysteria of racial hatred, they'd lynched a traveling Indian medicine man. The town bucks had raped and mutilated his negro woman before they'd killerd her, and with his dying breath the Indian had called down vengence on their souls.
